Help us bring groomed cross-country skiing to the Hamilton area.
The North Shore Nordic Association, a 501C3 tax exempt non-profit charitable organization formed by local residents with the goal of acquiring and operating ski grooming equipment on some of our local trails. The NSNA will work with local land stewards to groom a classical and skate ski lane on several existing trails including Patton Park, portions of the Discover Hamilton Trail, Appleton Farms and Grassrides, Bradley Palmer State Park and hopefully Sagamore Hill.
The NSNA is seeking funding from multiple sources to acquire an 84” Groomer and a special utility snowmobile to tow the groomer. Additionally we seek to acquire a trailer, operating insurance, fuel, signage, trail maps and signs. Please consider making a donation in any amount on our website www.nsnordic.org. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. WE need to raise a total of approximately $25,000 to get the operation up and running for the winter of 2015-2016. Subsequent years will only require funds to operate and maintain our equipment and pay for fuel and insurance. The NSNA will be an entirely volunteer run operation and we are seeking anyone interested in helping out in any way.
Once we are operational all ski trail use will be free of charge and supported by donations. NSNA will issue donor cards, as a token of appreciation to those making a donation of at least $100.
NSNA is also seeking to partner with corporate sponsors to fund a portion of our capital campaign.
Board member Jim Trudeau snuck away from holiday festivities early afternoon to groom Pingree, and he reports wide, firm corduroy. Great for skating or classic. He was able to come back again tonight for second pass and added classic tracks. Blowing snow may fill in some of the sections in the open fields. Check back tomorrow for additional updates.
Wishing you joy and happiness this holiday season! As you've probably gathered there will be no grooming today due to freezing rain and not enough snow.
Monday should benefit from the all the grooming our volunteer crews did over the weekend. Groomer Aidan MacDonald was out at midday yesterday to resurface existing grooming and to move onto a few other trails.
You will find double wide skate grooming at the following trails:
Pingree School
Appleton: Farmstead Loop, Plains Trail, Access Trail from Dairy Store
Parking for the Appleton trails is at the Dairy Store off of Route 1A and for the Pingree School trails, parking is across the street at the Bradley Palmer Highland Lot.
Find some time in your Monday to get out and get some fresh air!
Our first storm of the year brought us 6'' of snow overnight, pushing us over the threshold we need to groom. Last night all Pingree School Trails were rolled and groomed with three passes, and this morning we moved over to Appleton Farms, making a loop from the dairy barn and around the West Pasture. While as of 10:00 am there is no grooming in the Grass Rides section of Appleton, stay tuned for additional trail grooming later in the day if conditions allow.
All groomed trails are doublewide, skate groomed. there was not enough snow to set classic tracks, however, we have had a number of folks out on the trails that have attested that the conditions are great for classic skiing.
It's a beautiful day, join us on the trails, and support North Shore Nordic's volunteer trail grooming with your donation!
Groomers Jim Trudeau and Dan Brosnan groomed Myopia Schooling Fields on Friday night, making multiple passes with the Ginzu to widen and break up the hard ice surface.
Board member, Greg Horner, skied the northwest sector of Appleton Farms on Friday, reporting: "conditions are best described as 'everything' - there is hard snow bordering on ice, firm snow, powdery spots, mushy spots...but almost no bare spots."
We have been battling the elements, grooming in the sleet, the rain, and in the dark. With the low temperatures it has been difficult to groom this bulletproof snow, but we are trying.
