Help us bring groomed cross-country skiing to the Hamilton area.

The North Shore Nordic Association, a 501C3 tax exempt non-profit charitable organization formed by local residents with the goal of acquiring and operating ski grooming equipment on some of our local trails. The NSNA will work with local land stewards to groom a classical and skate ski lane on several existing trails including Patton Park, portions of the Discover Hamilton Trail, Appleton Farms and Grassrides, Bradley Palmer State Park and hopefully Sagamore Hill.

 

The NSNA is seeking funding from multiple sources to acquire an 84” Groomer and a special utility snowmobile to tow the groomer. Additionally we seek to acquire a trailer, operating insurance, fuel, signage, trail maps and signs. Please consider making a donation in any amount on our website www.nsnordic.org. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. WE need to raise a total of approximately $25,000 to get the operation up and running for the winter of 2015-2016. Subsequent years will only require funds to operate and maintain our equipment and pay for fuel and insurance. The NSNA will be an entirely volunteer run operation and we are seeking anyone interested in helping out in any way.

 

Once we are operational all ski trail use will be free of charge and supported by donations. NSNA will issue donor cards, as a token of appreciation to those making a donation of at least $100.

 

NSNA is also seeking to partner with corporate sponsors to fund a portion of our capital campaign.

 

 

NSNA Updates

Thanks to our trail maintenance volunteers!

October 29 was our first trail maintenance day for the upcoming winter season. We tackled a section of trail in Bradley Palmer State Park where a rough, sloped stretch would have prevented us from grooming. 14 hard-working volunteers joined us for 4 hours to remove large rocks, rake off debris, dig trenches, and install water bars to prevent the trail from washing out. To finish, we leveled the trail using material provided by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Now we'll have no problem grooming a trail along the south side of Bradley Palmer.

Thanks to All Who Made Our First Friend Raiser Dinner a Huge Success!

Nearly 100 of our friends and neighbors came to our inaugural Friend Raiser Dinner to meet each other, share enthusiasm for winter sports, take part in a raffle for great prizes, and celebrate a successful first season for North Shore Nordic Association's community ski trail grooming program. We have many people and organizations to thank for helping us put together such a fun event.

Firstly, we'd like to thank the Ipswich Ale Brewer's Table for graciously hosting all of us, and for donating a portion of the night's proceeds to help fund our next season.

We'd also like to recognize those who donated our excellent raffle prizes. Thank you to One Way Sport for providing the roller skis and poles. Thank you to the Trustees for offering the one year membership, including the parking pass to Crane's beach. And, thank you to Lark Fine Foods for donating the gift box of handcrafted cookies.

A big thanks is due to Speedpro Boston North, who donated the printing of our posters, and banner.

Thank you to the 100+ donors who helped us reach our recent fundraising goal and $10,000 matching challenge!

Our next phase of work will focus on trail accessibility and maintenance.  Several bridges need modification or temporary ramps to allow the groomer to cross them, several road crossings are unsafe, and we are still pursuing land access on a few key connections for the trail network.   We are pursuing grant funds and corporate sponsors to support this work, and the annual costs of insurance, maintenance, etc.
